Humana®️ has a zero premium Medicare Part C plan designed for veterans, you must have Medicare Part A and B to enroll. The Humana USAA Honor plan does not affect any care you get “on base” or at the VA, but provides benefits you are not getting with original Medicare.

Medicare Part C plans are required to provide the same level of coverage as Medicare Part A and B, and are offered by private companies like Humana and UnitedHealthcare.

Tri Care for Life covers most or all of Medicare approved medical charges that Medicare doesn’t cover (copays), but does NOT include Silver Sneakers, vision or dental coverage. The Humana USAA Honor plan works with Tri Care for Life clients because it does NOT have drug coverage, (you do not need drug coverage because you already have great coverage with Express Scripts). Tricare for Life stays your secondary plan, and still covers your copays.

The Humana USAA plan is a zero premium Medicare Part C plan designed for veterans who want to get benefits that Medicare does not provide. The Honor plan is a PPO,( NOT HMO), which allows you to see any doctor who accepts Medicare and does NOT require a referral to see a specialist.

The major benefits of the Honor Plan :

• Medicare Part B credit each month ($75-$125 a month the most common). This means your social security check will go up each month by the amount of the credit. These plans vary from state to state. The standard Medicare Part B premium for 2024 is $174.70 a month, if the Humana Honor plan in your state had a $100 Part B credit, social security would charge you $74.70 a month.
• Dental Coverage- most states have $2000 year benefit
• Vision and hearing coverage
• SilverSneakers- access to over 17,000 gym locations nationwide.
• All Humana USAA Honor plans are zero premium

Humana administers the health insurance benefits for Tricare East region, including Tricare Select and Tricare Prime, so veterans who live in the Tricare East region are familiar with Humana from the past.

TFL members in the Tricare West region often prefer the UnitedHealthcare Patriot plan, (similar to Humana USAA Honor Plan).
